Ft. Thomas Corvette Club Car Show

The 20th Annual Ft. Thomas Corvette Club Car Show on August 14, 2021 in Newport, Kentucky was a huge success!  Thank you to all who organized and worked at the event.  Thank you especially to the officers of the Ft. Thomas Corvette Club: Jack Buecker (President), Bill McBrayer (Vice President), Charlotte McBrayer (Treasurer), and Robin Bohn (Secretary).  Thank you to Hofbrauhaus for offering their parking lot as the venue.  Thank you to the 170 Corvette/classic car owners who brought their brilliant cars to the show.  The weather was lovely, and it was certainly a pleasure to browse around.  We very much appreciate all who sponsored the 114 trophies that were presented.  In all, $18,000 was raised, and all has been generously donated to Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory.  This money will be used to fund our Undergraduate Research Education Program (UREP) which continues to thrive here at Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory. Thanks to all for making our work possible.

Summer UREP 2021

Wood Hudson's virtual summer Undergraduate Research and Education Program (UREP) has concluded for 2021.  Eighteen students, four scientists, and numerous guest speakers worked to complete this intense program, which lasted from May 10th to August 11th.  Hear what a few students have to say about their experience:

Julian Wiggins from Xavier University writes:

“The UREP program was an extremely memorable summer experience that led me to thinking more about what career choice I will pursue.  I didn’t know how much “oncology” could encapsulate. I enjoyed the chance to talk to each of the mentors and wish there had been more time to work on advanced analysis of the content and more real-life examples.  I hope to come in to the lab and perform experiments, as it would grant an even greater experience.   It is one thing to talk about content, and a completely different experience to actually perform experiments.”

Natasha Abro, also from Xavier University, writes:

“Prior to this internship, I was taught very little about cancer and really only knew that it had rapid cell growth and was potentially fatal. Summer UREP has taught me so much more.  The approach to learning made it easy to understand, and specifically, I really enjoyed journal club.  Having students present an article that interested them gave me good ideas for my proposal. The proposals were difficult at first because I did not know where to start, but once I was able to incorporate journal club, it became much easier and flowed well.  Researching journal articles on the topics of our proposal helped with that because we saw the process other scientists took to test their hypotheses.  I also appreciated the guest speakers because what the speaker presented was something they specialize in, and you could hear the passion while they were presenting, and it made me more interested in the topic.”

UREP is funded by private donations from people like you.  Thank you so much to all our donors for making this program possible!  You can be a part of this great work and make a donation to UREP HERE.  UREP is also funded through grants from PNC Charitable Trusts, the R.C. Durr Foundation, and the Chemed Foundation.  We thank these organizations for their support.
